The cellar

Our cellar was born from the passion of my grandfather Pietro Schifone, he was one of the most well-known winemakers in the surrounding area.

He began his production in the 1950s with a goal, obtaining great wines and cooperating with its wine-growing friends. Grandfather passed this great passion to his sons and grandchildren, trying to make them understand the great resources of this rich land.

Most of our lands are near the sea, in the suited triangle of “Primitivo” in Manduria, i.e. in the municipalities of Torricella, Sava and Lizzano (Taranto’s province).

The area is characterized by “Terra Rossa”, a red clay soil type produced by the disintegration of limestone that is rich in minerals and iron, which contribute to it its characteristic color. Compared to the majority  of  clay soils, this land has surprising drainage characteristics, that make it a type of soil particolarly suitable for wine production.

The vineyards are characterized by non watered saplings that reach the average age of 30 years,  with peaks of  50/60 years for the stocks.
